Hi everyone,
new to the site - and kinda new to downhill biking too. Went out for my first time last saturday in the rain up at the lakes and had an awesome time.
Not got loadsa money to spend and really want to get started so bought myself a carerra vulcan 22" frame which feels great to ride, and after i read the reviews on here was convinced its a good bike.
However the front forks suck big time, their suntour SRs and i want to upgrade them to something a little beefier but not sure whats compatible and or if i will need to change the brakes and front wheel etc? (also seems stupid spending £600 on a £200 bike? but if its an option i guess i could... :? )
just after a little advice?.. if anyone can help
thanks everyone

You do realise the Vulcan isn't a DH bike?
It's a budget XC bike, albeit a reasonable one, but you shouldn't test it too much rattling down rocky/rooty decents.
Good for a bit of Singletrack fun, enjoy it for what it is.0 -
ah ok.. well it was only meant to be start so i guess thats ok.
so as far as you reckon no need to change the forks or anything like that?0 -
To be honest, only a week in is probably too early for you to know whether things are wrong or right. I'd hold onto the money for a few more weeks or months first.0

Absolutely. The vulcan's a decent bike, especially if you're just starting out. But if you really want something burlier, go back to Halfords and get the Fury. The vulcan will stand up to some abuse but it'll never be a downhill bike.
And neither will the fury, but it'll be a nice compromise for your budget.0 -

Yep. Perfectly OK for a first MTB.blutak wrote:so as far as you reckon no need to change the forks or anything like that?
Nope, not until they break.
My boy's Giant had the same forks (XCM's ???) they've just about given up the ghost after approx a year of some reasonable abuse. I/We've just replaced them with a pair of Tora's because, to be fair, that was a better option than servicing the Suntours.
Enjoy the Vulcan.0
