I got myself some RS80s last month. Very impressed with them. Roll up to speed quickly. Strong but not over firm. No flex when sprinting. I've raced on them and ridden over some terrible roads and still true. Merlin Cycles are doing the best deal on them: £314.0

Yes, I've just upgraded to RS80s and they seem good. Had some cheaper Shimanos on before WHR 500s I think. The RS80s didn't feel much lighter in my hand but they feel a bit stiffer and more responsive althuogh to be honest there's not a huge difference. I wanted to get Pro lite Braccianos, but I was ordering the wheels through Ribble as part of a bike to work order and Ribble don't sell Braccianos. They get very good reviews.

I'm in a similar position looking for a new set of wheels but I'm 18 stone (yes I know I need to lose more but lost 4 stone already) and most site don't seem to mention max loads.
Anyone got any pointers?0 -
Easton, or American Classic hurricanes seem good for heavier riders.
My Eastons seem very strong.0 -
I replaced the Alex rims on the Allez I had with Shimano Ultegra tubeless rims.
Very light - and I originally ran them with tubes & Schwalbe Luganos before going to Fusion 3 tyres.
RRP on the Ultegras is close to £400 but shop around and you'll get them for around £220 - £230. I'm selling my Allez but keeping the wheels becuase I've been so impressed. Not sure if there's a weight limit on them but I'm 12.5 stone and I've never had any pinging from the spokes.________________________________________

I was a bit confused as to where the Ultegra rims fit with RS80s, are they supposed to be better? They seem about the same price but they're both made by ShimanoDo not write below this line. Office use only.0

The rs80's have the carbon joined to the alloy rim, with an Ultegra hub.0

Oh right. But my RS80s have "RS80" written on the hub, rather than "Ultegra"Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
yeah they are ultegra hubs with 'dura ace' rims. wot do they ride like?0

RS80s are Dura Ace with carbon laminated onto the rim? They're a bit stiffer feeling than my last, cheaper Shimano wheels. I like them.Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
the rim is dura ace with the carbon bonded to make it stronger and lighter but the hub is ultegra not dura ace. gotta pay like 150 more for the dura ace hub

and hell the rs80s weight less than the dura ace0

Interesting review, I hadn't seen that...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Have a look at Fulcrum wheels. I've found their MTB wheels to be fantastic !! I'm going to be upgrading my road wheels to a pair of Racing 3s soon.
Light, stiff and strong, what more do you need ?

Although RS80s are lighter still acc to the review above...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
Decided to go with the rs80. Awesome wheel, smooth and fast! Got from merlin cycles £315. Average speed went up 3mph. So lightweight! Cheers for your thoughts0

Yeah I'm increasingly noticing how much better my RS80s are than my previous wheels. When I 1st put them on, I was a bit disappointed, I couldn't really feel any difference, but get them out of the open road and put some pressure on them piling up a hill, or accelerating away, you can really feel the stiffness and feel that the power you're putting through them is being transalated into forward motion. My old, cheaper Shimano wheels used to flex a little under extreme pressure and I sometimes felt them flexing against the brake pads.Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -

My suggestion would be to lose another 4 stone, then buy yourself new wheels as a reward
I am 16 stone- my Mavic CXP22s are quite heavy, but they're strong and need to be to support my weight
So I've promised myself a set of new wheels when I lose a couple of stone
Buying superlightweight expensive wheels when you're 4 stone overweight is putting the cart before the horse in my opinion0 -
I just bought a pair of RS80s to replace the Bontrager SSRs on my ageing trek1200. They feel a lot lighter and seem to spring into life when getting out of the saddle to attack an incline. I have not yet noticed any dramatic difference in average speed, though I have only been on two rides with them so far. They do feel a lot quicker to accelerate on descents, no doubt helped by the bladed spokes. They also look great on the bike. Hopefully they will hold up to my 14stone as so far I have not noticed much flex in them. Ribble are selling them for £311 with a code.0
