Hi there.

I'll be doing Penmachno in a couple of weeks. After reading on here it appears there are two loops. Are the waymarkers easy to find and follow for both loops?

Thanks,

Just follow the red arrows on the wooden posts.

That said, I think they might have shortened the second loop a little, unless I took a wrong turn the other day...

Half way round loop 1, just as you are exiting a single track section, you will see a sign directing you left to continue on loop 1 or right on to loop 2. The end of loop 2 brings you back on to loop 1, about 200m on from where you left loop 1 (hope that makes sense!)

Please remember to put some money in the yellow honesty box at the start of the trail as this goes towards the maintenance of the trail which is done by volunteers.

Penmachno is my fav North Wales trail, its brilliant :D .

    Have fun!

We're up for the weekend planning to do Penmachno both loops on Saturday afternoon and the Marin trail Sunday morning.

Does anyone know whether these are both fully open this weekend? (Last time we were up the best section of Marin was closed for maintenance...)

    Cheers

P.S. will defo put money in honesty box at Penmachno - it's my favourite trail. Good work done up there.

  • I've plotted out Penmachno on Google maps. Also got Marin trail and The Beast from Coed-y-Brenin.

I think Penmachno is a great trail, definitely better than the Marin trail.

They seem to have been improvedthe trails at Coed-y-Brenin since my last visit in 2008.
There are a new set of steep steps on the MBR route after it crosses the river. A few berms have appeared here and there. The steep climb (from furthest South point about half way round) now has a long single track section after it.

I was at Penmachno on the 28th and both loops where open. I've not done the Marin for 5 - 6 weeks but it was all clear.
