Different centrelock centre locky things?

Just wondering, what's the deal with the 2 different Shimano centrelock fixing methods?

One of them takes a cassette tool, the other a HT BB tool. Is the BB one designed for 20mm hubs? Are they interchangable?

bb one is for 20mm yea.
never tried changing them... fairly sure a cassette tool one doesn't fit a 20mm hub, but I don't know about the other way round!0 -
I am sure they could make a lighter design out of that, to put the system weight up there with the lightest Hope floaters.0
-
Shame they're ugly as feck and compatible with very few hubs... :roll:0

Yeehaa, did you mean to say something there?supersonic wrote:to put the system weight up there with the lightest Hope floaters.
So still heavier than a simple steel rotor?Uncompromising extremist0 -
But Centrlock hubs are generally lighter than 6 bolt designs. So if the weight could equal out, you are left with a stronger, more reliable and easy to use system.0

Oh, ta!
So anyway, does anyone actually know? Just that I've got a feller wanting to buy them and I don't know if the centrelock thing is going to cause him problems, I never used the 180mm one before I sold the wheels.Uncompromising extremist0 -
the disks are the same front and rear... just the locks are different.
you need a 20mm lockring (BB tool) for a 20mm hub and a QR lockring (cassette tool) for 9mm hub.
Not sure if a 20mm lockring works with a 9mm hub, but I know the QR lockring wont work with a 20mm hub as the hole isn't big enough for the axle.0 -
Oh, the cassette tool is for standard qr, the bb tool for bolt through designs, both 15 and 20mm.
AFAIK.0 -

AFAIK.
pffft... I even made the effort to go check!0 -
Yah, but will the 20mm design work on a QR, is the question.Uncompromising extremist0

Nah, just too big.0

fits fine - the locking diamaters are the same, just the internal diamater is different.
Just you get a gap between the 9mm axle and the inside edge of the lockring which I guess will leave the bearings exposed.0
