Sad state of affairs...

Found myself on the tube today opposite a muslim woman with a large shopping trolley who started to go in to a prayer routine. I found myself getting quite worried, couldn't take my eyes of her hands for looking for a button and wondering whether I should just get off the train asap.

What it was, of course, was a devout believer going about her business and all I could react with was was this another 7/7 about to happen.

Depressing, sad and tragic where we have come to.

If you believe everything the tabloids say about Muslims, immigrants, asylum seekers etc, you deserve to live in fear.

To be fair, the OP never mentioned anything about asylum seekers and immigrants. Muslim extremists carried out the 7/7 atrocities - that's a fact and nothing to do with believing what the papers say.

I do agree, however, that the OP's reaction was a bit off the mark.

I know I was off the mark. That's why I felt it was depressing, sad and tragic that at some level this had embedded itself in me.

I guess my posting made more sense to me than others who may have read it but what I was trying to express was a sense of regret that such feelings and thoughts have certainly entered society.

Remember 7/7 came close to a lot of people, both professionally and personally.

BTW I don't believe anything the tabloids say about anything!

I say fair play to you for posting the thread and I think I understand your frame of mind, but rest assured that the bandwagon suspension will be hitting the bump stops.

I understand what you mean - I has a similar thing in Geneva Airport when someone asked me to put something in my bag. Think it was a pack of contact lenses.

They were Muslim (man and wife) and my first and most obvious thought was "No way, The check in desk will ask me the "has anyone asked you to carrry anything" question and I aint lying...."but there was a definite underthought of "and certainly not for you..."

key word here is extremists - anyone can be considered as extreme , I think its extreme the acts of atrocities that happen in the name of any idol, let alone false idols, pop idols etc etc , its a sad state of affairs, one thats even sadder for the fact its all orchestrated to do just that - make people fear each other.

Problem - create a problem, an orchestrated event that creates widsespread panic in the group of people you wish to control.

Reaction - the group of people thru their own fears and those presented to them then wish to have something done to stop this event ever happening again!

Solution - More control over those people you wish to control because people will give up their freedoms, for this very fact, that they wish to feel safe. The idea is to tip-toe slowly toward creating a more locked down totalitarian state because if too much happens too quickly, people WAKE UP!! and go hold on a minute, theres something fishy goin on here!! - which is hopefully what is happening alot more now - people are seeing it all for the great sham and charade it all is.

Fair point, well made. Being aware of the insidiousness of tabloid thinking is about the best we can all do to stop it getting inside us.

The thought process has to be there for us to be aware. I was in Bolton library a few months ago talking to a friend and this very tall Moslim guy came in, stopped, put his rucksack down and wandered off to the computers. I looked at my mate and he was looking at the bag, the guy came back and picked it up and I must admit I breathed a little easier.

Do I feel guilty? Not really. The press has pushed that thought process into our brains and whilst I don't like it it's making us aware of possible situations. It's not wrong, it's merely worrying.

It's inevitable isn't it - I remember being on the tube in Summer - hot day - and a Muslim guy gets on wearing a padded winter coat. This was not long after the London bombings and you wouldn't be human if it didn't cross your mind.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
