I noticed that the thread about benefits has been removed. I can understand that there may be reasons for doing so, and that many people, including myself, would find many of the comments made about those on benefit to be offensive, but i feel the best way of countering such bigotry is to have a good, robust debate with those who hold such views.

In the age of censorship anything that does not toe the current politically correct line of commentary is not allowed. For instance, it is illegal to discriminate against someone for having a disability when it comes to a job, but that same person can be guaranteed a job interview, which in itself is discrimination.

People don't like the fact that a lot of people are actually better off on benefits than in work and if this is pointed out it is shouted down and often censored, but it is a fact of life that low paid work doesn't pay well enough for many people in high rent areas to live on whist benefits do. Why else are there so many young women whose only career choice is as a benefits claiming mother? It has now become a way of life, not a short term means to an end.

if a thread is locked, it will rapidly fall offthe first few pages and into the mass of old pages

You'll probably find it's been locked, not removed.

We'll generally allow discussions to continue until they get reported, as if there's not reports, it theoretically shows that nobody has a problem with the content. If a topic does get reported, it will normally be locked. What's been written will still be available to read, but the thread will no longer be open for contribution. This is because topics are most often reported in this way for arguments which are turning nasty, and locking the topic is an effective method of stopping the argument before someone says something we'll have to take stronger action about.

Occasionally, we will delete things. Spam, most often, but also grossly inappropriate or offensive posts, like unwarranted personal insults, racist ranting, etc. If we do want to delete things, unless it's either the original post or in many posts within the topic, we'll just delete the relevant posts, possibly combined with locking the topic.

There is no censorship. A quick look around will tell you that, especially in the Office section, where we're often told how useless we are. Though we do occasionally need to take action if something absolutely can't remain on the forum, we don't like deleting things, and won't if we can help it.

I hope that the situation is not what you typed here

Surely you do not lock threads simply because someone reports them.

I would hope that a thread is only banned after some breach of the rules is made out. Otherwise, I'm going to report all threads by DDD and get him prevented from posting on here as everytime he does, I'll report it and you will lock his threads!!!!

PS DDD - I was only joking. I do not want anyone banned

Yes, that was worded badly. Obviously we won't lock topics where no rules are breached, and it is up to the discretion of the moderator.

This is quite a liberal forum and whilst there seems to be a lot of trolling it tends to just peter out. Suppose if we start accusing Chris Boardman of being a cheese cake fanatic we may get sued  best to lock those threads!
