front mech problems

hi folks
i,m new on here as i used to be on the mtbuk forums which has sinced finished

anyway i,m having a problem with my bike,s front mech as it won,t change and i found out what the problem was when i tighten the cable then press the shifter to change it the cable slips through and the screw is still tight and its really doing my head in

any tips folks did anyone have the similer problem

    the cable slips where?

    sounds like you need to adjust the stop screw to allow the mech to move further out.

    the cable on the front mech which goes behind a plate on the screw so when you tighten the screw up the cable looks tight then when you press the shifter it slips up on the mech then the cable just loosens

    Is the cable in the groove on the clamp?

    yeah thats right it goes into a groove then the screw has a clamp on it as when you tighten the screw the clamp should stop the cable from getting loose
