Not really a road bike so try asking in the Commuting or MTB forums.

They know more about these types of bikes than roadies do.

Its ok for occasional use. I had a subway, looks good for the money but the components aren't great. With a regular commute, mine lasted 18months before it disintegrated.

Sorry I find it hard to believe a bike "fell to bits" after 18 months

Spend £300, ride it 5times a week and you'll see what i mean. First thing to go will be the little suspension thing on top of the seatpost, causing the seat to come off, which then is only able to rest in the top of seatpost. The soft teeth on the chainring and cassette will wear causing chain and gears to slip and then wheels will collapse.

But hey, be my guest. Its £300 for a reason.

It sounds to me like you run the chain for too long which in turn damaged the cassette and the chainring. The wheels are not very good though.

  • It's generally always the case that you get what you pay for.

I am always suspicious of Halfords. Only they sell the Carrera and Boardman make, that means they control the price. Are the sales "really" genuine ? I have my doubts.

This bike will do you fine for light infrequent use, otherwise spend a bit more for a better bike.

The Boardmans are great bikes. Oh spotted the Gryphon probably a better road bike (flat bar roadie)
