Which forecasts do you follow, other than look out and seeing.

My job means I have to plan my rides ahead so rely quite heavily on the forecasts, personally i use BBC news website.

Another issue is global warming. How can they predict how bad things are going to be when they cant even predict the 5 day forecast 1 day away.

    +1 for BBC website.

You need to know the difference between weather and climate.

A commercial pilot friend on mine once said, any forecast thats more than a few hours in the future is pointless!.

As for the weather, aslong as its not icy, surely any weather is good?, especially when its warmer like it is now?

Met check. The light rain doesn't bother me, but gusting winds, gales and torrents really put me off. I haven't sorted a spare rear rim yet to be able to hit the turbo so I end up doing nothing willing the weather to change.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

+1 for the met. I like the gusting wind info because that is the only thing to make me think about postponing a ride due to safety fears:

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... cript.html

The info is more detailed than the bbc, who use the met data any way.

I use metcheck, usually quite reliable

stop been a whiny little bitch and just ride whatether!

also how can they not predict the weather a day ahead?

if you had the slightest bit of geographical commen sence then you woud understand as to why the weather is so varied (due to the Uk's position meaning that it is effected by 5 varying air masses bringing a range of weather). Just be grateful we dont have desert conditions of snow and sand!

also theres no point checking several weather sites as they all come from the Met office anyways!

    I use http://www.wetter24.de/
It's in german but seems to predict wind speed correctly and breaks the forecast down into sections of day. Their iphone app is even better, with 3 hour forecast - great for getting out in best period of the day.

There have been times when the bbc and met office contradict themselves so I don't think the bbc repeat their predictions straight.
Both currently claim no rain here today so I may have to reconsider going out tomorrow given that it is.

Normally check metcheck, but i went out when it was raining before, as i knew the roads would be quiet.. Dried up nicely and with me layering up, i was able to pop a couple of layers into my back pocket as it warmed and dried up.

I look out the window and ride in whatever is out there, it always seems to be different weather once I get in the hills anyway. Always take a lightweight jacket stuffed in saddle pack for those horizontal showers on the top of the Long Mynd!

Get a barometer and look out of the window. if the barometric pressure is going down, it's going to be wet and windy, if it's going up it's going to be fine. Your view out of the window tells you when to expect the change.

I dont have or want a barometer, I would rather like to rely on the met office and BBC which we all pay for. A bit of accuracy isn't too much to ask for surely.

Met Office and Metcheck. Useful to a degree for everything but the wind I find.
Both can differ dramatically in their windspeed forecasts and living slap bang on the coast the subsequent reality is usually even worse. :(
  • I use uk.weather.com mainly

I eventually got a maplin weather station to backup these 'forecasts'. It has been great as I can look out to guess myself but also check outdoor temp to help weigh up clothing selection and the wind speed for extra indication.

Like others have said though you must get out in all conditions this time of year as you will only regret it when it gets colder/darker again. 8)

Ain't that the truth! I've already started buying my winter riding gear whilst it's still in the clearance sales.
