Get home from work - Weather Nice
Flick through TDF on Sky+ - Still Nice
Have something to eat - Yep still nice
Iron a t-shirt, close the curtains whilst i put my shorts on, fasten up my shoes take my bike downstairs open the door - Rain
I never used to mind if my MTB got wet but i couldn't bear to take my road bike out in the rain.
Now sat here bored wondering why i even bother .
So do you take your pride and joy out in the rain or like me sit in and be bored waiting for sun.
I may have to get a Turbo Trainer

If it's proper pouring outside I'll probably wimp out. If it's just normal rain though I'll use my crappy weather bike.
Although, today I got caught in a proper long, heavy downpour. The rain was bouncing a good six inches on the ground, I couldn't see very well, and car drivers must have though I was nuts. Bloody soaked. Could feel the squelch in my shoes all the rest of the ride. Needless to say the lovely CAAD is bogging.
MTFU. :twisted:0 -
I've always, since a kid, loved cycling in the rain, especially when it's warm rain. Something about the tyre noise, or lack of it.
I know this makes me a bit weird, but my carbon bike hasn't melted yet so I'll keep on enjoying myself!0 -
OP, you should have headed out as soon as you got home! Take advantage of every little bit of sunshine!Ben

Don't close the curtains,be proud of what swings.0

Rain, shine, wind, its all good, neither me or the bike aren't going to melt, so there is no reason to not go out, only time I'll think twice is if its icy.0

If its a hurricane/monsoon, ill stay in the warm.. is its just a bit of wet falling from the sky, and the light isnt so bad as to make cycling a danger, Its all fair game!!0

I went for a ride myself today, and got caught out. No worries though, human skin is waterproof
I used to have a Harley Davidson, only ever seen dry weather. When I sold it, the guy who bought it had a 200 mile ride home and it was p****ng down. Now he will get proper use out of the bike. I dont intend to make that mistake again. Its warm enough at the moment so stuff the rain, ride the bike and enjoy a hot shower afterwards.0 -
I went out in it last night; raining stair rods it was! Very refreshing and I like to think I gave the neighbour a treat as I stood on the driveway in my boxers (put on for decency; they weren't under my bibs!) wringing out my jersey, bibs and socks.
So I was refreshed and the neighbour probably had a good ol' play with herself... everyone's a winner.Ben

I commute in the rain but don't want to take my shiny road baby out in the wet, so am clearly a homosexual (in the words of Mr Clarkson)
On the other hand, I live in the west of Scotland, so on that basis may not get to ride my roadie until erm.... well, next April. Doh!"Get a bicycle. You won't regret it if you live"

I had similar thoughts tonight
"turbo trainer OR mtfu"
While in Glasgow today there was a big nasty f++koff downpour and i thought "hmm, i would love to be out in the mtb tonight" then the the mind went into the roadie and was "i`ll give it a miss tonight"
I guess as a newb i`m more frightened of falling/skidding on a downhill bend or skidding on iron works or line painting than anything else.

If it rains I just go out on my Winter bike which has clip-on mudguards.
You just have to be a bit more careful cornering, braking, etc.0 -

Surely that would be bus spotting?
Like plane or train spotting but even less glamorous :?None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
That's the very reason I chose a bike which takes mudguards.
Black ice and apathy are the only things that keep me in the house.0 -

I had ordered some new shorts and a Jersey but my Jersey hadn't arrived so i found a tightish t-shirt to wear. It was Extreme Ironing too.0 -
I biked to work yesterday, started out with light drizzel and nasty wind. Then started pissing down, driving wind and rain against me all the way. Struggling to make 12mph on a long long flat section.
Headed home after work, no rain but the wind was still stong and pushed me all the way home. Sat at 34-35mph along the long flat section without breaking a sweat. Best ride Ive ever had.
Think what I would have missed if I poofed out in the morning cause of the rain.0 -
Well i went out for my first ride in full Lycra tonight, what a lovely experience.
Nice and warm but also nice and cool
Wish i'd have taken up cycling 10 years ago.0 -
another one who doesn't care about ridding in the rain here0

When it's warm, like it is now, I really like a good downpour. For some reason belting down the road on the roadie feels just as good in summer rain as it does in summer sun.
I refitted my Crud Road Racer mudguards a couple of weeks for a sportive in the Peak District where heavy rain was predicted and have been too lazy to take them back off, so it's all paying off now!
What I don't like is the sideways-freezing-raindropsliketheicyfingersofthegrimreaperhimself winter rain. I'm not one of these people who turns up at winter club runs proclaiming how 'the cold makes me feel alive'. I think those people are mad and should probably be committed to some sort of mental health institution for everyone else's safety.- - - - - - - - - -

getting wet is no problem . its the chore of having to clean the bike when you get back thats the problem .0

buy a fixie for rainy days. cleans up in 5 mins. just a squirt of oil on the chain and a quick wipe over and its ready for another rainy or winters day. plus they're seriously good fun to ride (gotta be steel though)0
