Found one of these in a boiler room at work. Horrible brown coloured frame - standard touring colours :)

Any market for these, is it worth owt other than its value as a basic clean tidy bike?

Looks to be in original condition, 531 frame unmarked, weinmann centre pulls, most of rest of gear is branded Raleigh and in good condition, Michelin World Tour tyres. One of decals is a bit peeled off and creased but could be fettled.

Only snippet of info I have on these is that "Carlton Corsair" is mentioned in the chorus of the song "No Lucifer" by British Sea Power.

Probably not much use to ya Simon....

If the frame has forged dropouts it is worth more. It will sell more readily if it is a 21" frame or thereabouts. Try and find a serial number - BB shell or rear dropouts as far as I recall.

No, but nice to know somebody's thought about it. :)

Cheers Weejie, I will have a look and report back. :)
  • They seem to go for about £170 in decent nick! Which is why I am going to dust my almost perfect example down in the new year and get it sold!

Should be getting one as a winter/spring project. Belongs to a friend of mine who was bought it new by his Dad in about 83/84. Sadly Raleighised with pressed dropouts but otherwise mainly suffering damp storage. The frame is well rust speckled but hopefully it will mostly polish out.

They seem well enough regarded - found one comment favouring them over the Dawes Galaxy though it seems perhaps a little dubious given that the frame is 531 maintubes only. Still, I'll be putting quite a few hours into it.

Dave Marsh @ Universal Cycles in Maltby will shed some light on it for you. He's an ex Carlton employee & what he doesn't know ain't worth knowing.
