Have you ever gone out for a short ride and not bothered to take your underwear off before pulling on your shorts to save washing afterwards?

What?! and miss out on the pleasure of rubbing chamois cream into one's nether regions?

To save washing what? Yourself or your clothes? Either way, if you don't wash you're gonna be smelly-no-mates.

You want to get one of those magic baskets.

Put your shorts in and they appear back in your drawer totally clean....still not figured it out yet

In answer to your original question, yes, but only because I was tired and totally forgot to take them off first...realised about three miles in.

No. If the short ride is that short there is no point in changing into shorts. The jeans you're wearing will do.

Ok. Get the point. If wearing cycling shorts ditch the pants

Seen it advertised, but never bought it. Do you use chamois cream? Is it a personal choice? Is it essential? Does it work?Dare I ask what is is intended to stop rubbing?

For a short ride, applying Chamois is nothing shy of masturbation... fun but essentially pointless!!

For long rides, it is now one of my essential preparations!! It stops any kind of chafing from the saddle over long distances (more to the point, stops your coin-purse rubbing on the pad, and stops the inside of your thigh rubbing on the saddle). Some people say it doesnt work, but im imagining these are the people that can spend £70-80 on a pair of shorts, so us mere mortals are left with sub par knacker hampers that need lube!

Essential? Oh my, yes. Especially on anything longer range. The purpose of chamois cream is to stop the inevitible rubbing of the little hairy bits of your nether regions between your shorts/pad and saddle - think of it as b*llock lube.......if you don't (and especially if you're a minger like RICH78  or wear pants under your lycra) your perineum will sprout little hard volcano-like repositories of pus which I can tell you are bloody sore, and take ages to heal, even after you burst the little blighters

There are loads of proprietary brands like Assos (no that really is the name), but I favour Sudocrem - cheap, easily available in big tubs and the smell reminds me of when I were a nipper....ahhhh
