I have a set of Fulcrum 3 wheels on my ride which I have to say run very nicely, however what is the main difference between say my 3's and top end Zipp or other deep rimmed wheels which cost in the region of £1000 more than mine ?

I have looked at the weight and they are only slightly lighter, is it the stiffness or something else ?

Thanks

    it is about aerodynamic efficiency

at speed, a zipp wheel, 404 say, will gve a significant energy saving vs. a low profile wheel

it is a couple of years old now, but the roues artisanales site has lots of test data...

...you'll see a zipp 404 saves over 12w just on the front wheel vs. a fulcrum racing 7 at 50kph, with an 808 it's an even bigger difference

since these tests i think zipp made changes to increase efficiency even more
