I am currently building a bike. It is a reasonable spec, but was wondering about the skewers. There appears to a large amount of difference in price. Is there a large difference in quality? I don't want something giving way buckling or coming lose when descending at 40mph+. Do they really make a difference, rolling resistance etc, or do we just pay for the fact that some say campag and others don't?

they won't make any difference to rolling resistance, being at the centre of the wheel....

As long as you don't get £5 ebay specials, any quick release, done up properly should be fine. I'm using some Cook Bros Racing quick release levers from about 10/15 years ago and can still desend at 50+mph with no major issues. I know. I tried.

As to not working loose, just keep an eye on them as you would anything else on the bike.

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.
