Removing Truvativ Giga X pip crank

Needed to replace a chain ring on my Truvativ Giga x pipe crankset. Removed the non drive side crank arm without a problem but the crankset refuses to come out of the bottom bracket even with a short tap with a rubber mallet.
Have looked at the Truvativ website but that just seems to show that the whole crankset should come out easily after the non drive side crank is removed.
Have I missed some obvious step?
Thanks

They can take a bit of force - I'd give it another tap!0

I've just given it another go but it feels as if it it catching on something. The problem is that I probably need something to punch it through from the non drive side but I don't want to b**r up the axle!0

The drive side crank should just 'fall' out after the non-drive crank has been removed.
A rubber mallet won't damage the axle as long as it is softer than the alloy. You could screw the self-extracting bolt back in and hit that. Make sure it is screwed all the way in otherwise the threads might be damaged.0 -
Well, I have just given up! I tried with a bit of wood and a hammer but the axle refused to budge past the bb on non drive side. I can only think that something is preventing it from going through so I think it's now going to have to go into the lbs for them to sort it. Very frustrating when all I wanted to do was change a chain ring!
Thanks for your suggestions.0 -
Buy one of these and take the bearing out with the crank:

Mine was the same - Truvativ GXP cranks, had been on my Scale for 2 years.
Really thought it wasn't going to come out, until I had the frame sideways on a workbench, frame supported nicely with the cranks free to drop through the gap in the bench.
Just kept hitting it with my rubber maul and eventually it dropped - can only presume the corrosion build up on the axle was to blame.
