didnt know where best to put this but..........
im going to be watching the tour at the tourmalet this year, and was wondering, is there any chance at all (do you think) that i would be able to park up somewhere on the mountain, if we set off before breakfast?
thing is, we are stopping about 25 miles away from the climb - not a mega distance - but it is for my girlfriend who rarely rides a bike!!!
or is it a case of grin and bear the ride?
just after some advice as ive never been!
cheers

I believe that the roads are closed very early on mountain stages if not the previous day. Your best bet may be to get a small tent and stay up the night before - gives you chance to sample the atmosphere too. I'm not speaking from experience so may be worth trying the pro race section.0

Depends on the space available on any particular finish and numbers already on it, after decades of running a bike race the gendarmie have an uncanny knack of getting it spot on . Have watched a couple of stages where the tourmalet is involved, not as a finish, and on each occasion it was closed to vehicles the day before although camper vans seemed to get preferential treatment. Somewhere like Courcheval in the alps however they were letting cars drive up on to it until 10:30am of the day of the stage until the all the parking on the ski slopes was filled up.0
