Buying a new road bike

After some advice please.
I've been cycling quite a lot on my mountain bike with road tyres on and it's about time I upgraded to a road bike.
Looking for some advice really. Plan to spend no more that £600/700 and was considering the specialized Allez sport or maybe just the Allez
Is it a good buy for the money? The reviews seem pretty good!
Any thoughts/advice gratefully received.

You can get a nice bike for that budget, and the Spesh Allez would fall into the nice category. Would recommend a visit to your LBS and test ride what they have in that price range. Will give you a sense for which model / manufacturer you feel most comfortable on.0

Just got myself the basic Allez today. Really pleased with it. It's my first road bike so nothing to compare it too. I did look at a fair few bikes around the £500 mark but the Spesh stood out to me.
Also think of the Secteur too as they are very good although more long distance/comfort focused.Allez 16 - bad weather / turbo trainer

I was in a almost identical situation to yourself. I had a 2nd set of MTB wheels with semi-slick tyres but went and bought a road bike last October and finding that I'm loving the road cycling way more than expected.
I got a 2010 Allez triple which in my opinion is a great starter bike and it does get good reviews. That said, I've been so bitten by the road cycling bug that I've decided to get a carbon road bike and sell the Allez. If I had the space (and could afford it) I'd keep the Allez as a winter bike, but it'll be up in the classifed section within the next 7-10 days.
Best bet is to try a range of bikes at your local bike shop - some may fit you better than others.________________________________________

Second will be mostly recommended at that price, although if you want new (I did) then at the price point you mention the Carrera TdF seems to be a popular choice. Haggle in store from what I have read and you can get it for £270 more often than not.Allez 16 - bad weather / turbo trainer

I just got a Giant Rapid 3 today - absolutely love it. The flat handlebars allow for a comfy riding position with the speed and feel of a road bike. They're £550.Giant Rapid 30

Decathlon's B'Twin Sport 1 is also worth a look at £270, I've owned one for a couple of months and it's a great starter bike. It's now in the classifieds (bit too far from you though I'm in Sheffield!) as I've just got a Specialized Allez which I've not ridden enough yet to comment on but first impressions are excellent.0 -
