Another newbie asking for help picking my first bike!

Hi all, i have been bitten hard by the MTBing bug and would like some advice on picking my first bike.
I want to start using the many trails in the south wales area and i think a hardtail would be the best starting point for me. I've got a few in mind but my spec knowledge is non existent so any input would be welcomed. My budget is £600.
After searching the web the 3 that standout to me are...
Cannondale Trail SL 6 2010
Kona Blast 2010
Specialized Hardrock 2010
A friend of mine has a Marin bolinas i've had a go on it and really liked it but i'm not sure its for me.
I hope this all makes sense and any advice or recommendations will be appreciated.

If you can up your budget £100 then get this - All the components are a few 'levels' up. From the shortish 20 min or so ride I've had on one it is great on swoopy singletrack and on the climbs.

hey, thanks for the link. I do have £700 but as i'm just starting out i need to get a helmet, lock etc. So £600 is my max.0
