Hey up guys :)

Does anyone think a factory boxed bike (18") will fit inside a car without attaking the box? (VW Polo, seats down)

Has anyone tried lately?

Cheers

I collected a Felt road bike (54cm) and had to leave the box.

In a Polo you'll be lucky, last one I picked up only just fitted in the Golf!

I get my 20" HT in the back of a 106. Seats down and wheels off.

My mate has to take the front wheel off his to get in in his Volve estate, but that's his 36" wheeler, his Zaskar can be thrown in from 6 feet away!

If I had a pound for every time I'd heard that.....
Yeah, I can't help thinking occasionally that an 18" would less stretched out, but it seems to fit me well and I have a lot of seatpost showing, so couldn't go much shorter.

I can fit my bike bag lying flat in the back of a polo - well I actually had three bike bags plus other luggage int he back. Bike box maybe not, not so flexible I guess.

Depends on how big the box is, isn't there various types of bike boxes.

The ones where they take the wheels etc off so the box isn't much bigger than the frame and the ones where the bike comes pretty much fully assembled and all you have to do is turn the handlebars and attach the pedals?

I had to debox a Focus Cayo to get it in a Touran and they're huge so you'd need to be Doctor Who to get it in a Polo.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result

  • Thanks for all the replies.

I hope if the back seats are down - as well as the front passenger seat...

A boxed bike could maybe just squeeze in (at a 30 degree angle)

My next car is a van. Or truck.

    Cheers

A mate to make sure it doesn't slide out and a bit of string to hold the boot down.
Stick it in as far as it'll go and drive it home.

Not gonna work if you've got a long motorway run or anything but maybe worth it over a shorter run.
