Hmmm, tempting, especially as I may have around that much cash coming in soon from an insurance claim on my roadie.

Why does it come with toeclips though

I've just taken delivery of the Triad DS.

The reason - saving cash - the pedals that come with these bikes must cost all of 50p - just appears to be more bang for your buck, but it's not they go in the bin.
  • yep pedals get ditched straight away...may get some nice D8 or D12s (i like them cos am clumsy)

nice bike the DS mate! and Edinburgh bikes is real value for money! not the brand shiny bikes but still as good as any i've ever seen at a fraction of the cost

Looks nice, but that is HEAVY at just sub 30lb!

yeah that is true, but I can only get fitter trying to hump it up hills :) never been a speed guy up the hills, like that strange long slog, strange I know but it's kinda nice.

Kinda agree on the slighty heavy side...my FS is lighter however never really understood people getting hung up on weight......at £900 the spec is great value....if your talking sub 25lb for a HT you going to pay twice as much for a light weight racer...so that's £200 per Lb !! it depends what it rides like....after all it's the difference of carrying 1 litre in yourv camelback or 2 !

  • yep totally agree Pudseyp... but can't afford carbon nice things,, this is for hard scottish muddy weather sloggin about... think of it as the Pat Roach of bikes ;)

LOL, Heavy wasn't a criticism, but an observation, besides I enjoy the challenge of lightening a bike without costing a fortune, although as a rule of thumb I've found £10/100g to be the going rate (even for used bits), although occasionally I get some big hits!

Get some Wellego MG-1's, lighter than all DMR's and cheaper than v12's

Not heard of the revolution brand before?

Seems expensive I hate to say, I bough my Swchinn Moab 10 years ago for £475 and it weighs about 22lbs, and at the time came with top drawer components. Still take it out once in a while for some reminiscing LOL

the guy is saying he prefers full sus tongue in cheek

I think there's a lot to be said about losing a couple of stone off your belly (which will save you money), rather than forking out 2k to loose 3 or 4lbs on your bike.. Sounds like the right idea to me.
  • Just to let you all know, I picked this up on saturday and took it for a good ride at the weekend. Climbing it feels really responsive, it's quite light as well, I was suprised at that..so did some big(ish) hills with ease. going down the other side it's magic! totally responsive and you can put it hard and know those forks (which are amazing) handle anything (ok I didn't do rock gardens) but it's smooth!

The gears are very very good and snap into position with no questions asked!

The only fault I could pick is the saddle, grips and pedals aren't the best, but looking at the components and the price of the bike, if you want a harttail that can be battered about then this is for you... so glad I got this instead of a more known label..!

    good on ya edinburgh bikes!

Well in mate, nice bike. Got a Revolution Triad myself and they are first class, can't fault it and for the price they come at aswell, frames are made in the same factory as other big brans, so you know you're getting a quality build.

As for the weight, it's not designed to be a whippet machine, its a hardcore hardtail, with a 150mm fork you're not expecting it to be light, its obviously been built up to take a beating.

Edinburgh bikes for the win ! :D

Saddle grip and pedals are all very much personal preference fits so change them if you dont like them - Charge Spoon saddle seems to be a popular choice and good budget one too - I ride SDG Bel Air on both bikes and they suit my but just grand.

Grips - Lock Ons seem popular but arent the softest - the new Renthal grips look good for non lockon.

Pedals - are you flat or spd riding - spd try these - flats? no idea.

11-28 Cassette? :| That would be the first thing to get changed out. Where about around Aberdeen are you going to take it?

Cheers, weescott, but am not sure why I would change a 11-28 cassette? I dont know a great deal about the mechanics of it, but any help would be great if you could pass your knowledge on.

In aberdeen, out and about urban, cycle paths, don, dee, deeside. Kirkhill, Pitfichie, Tyrebagger Hill.

I may even attempt the downhill course at pitfichie but I may wait until am fitter and stronger for that.

    any rides you recommend?

11-28 will be fine for urban stuff. Kirkhill you could probably get away with it. Another route to try is Countesswells (pretty easy going). The gearing will be fine for the Pitfichie DH but you have to be a pretty good rider to do it on a hardtail. It's a serious boulderfest up there.

12-34 is a much more usuable gear range. For climbing you will have to have legs of steel to use the 28T cog. I suspect the geomety of your bike is going to be pretty slack adding to the climbing challenge. Unless you are seriously fit then you will struggle. i.e.get off and push on some climbs. I'm sure it will be fun going down though. Loads of trails around Aberdeen to try. 8)
