For my cycle to work I am looking for a all rounder jacket, does one exist? It needs to be warm and also waterproof for day like today which is cool and wet.

I don't really want to spend lots on 2 or 3 items of wet weather wear.

Does anyone have any sugestions?

How far is your commute? How fast do you do your commute? Do you want something 'race fit' or looser? Are you wearing normal clothes underneath? Will you be commuting in the dark? Do you want reflectives? Do you want to be able to wear the jacket casually without looking like a Powerranger? Do you want it to be packable?

I will probably be wearing normal clothing therefore it needs to be warm and reflective as well, I have seen the Altura Nevis jacket that looks like it fits the bill?

You reckon today is cool? I was in a light t-shirt and still sweating after 10 mins, despite the drizzle. You're gonna need some serious coat come winter.

You don`t realy want to wear a waterproof unless it`s actually pissing down, especially in the summer, or you will be permamently wet anyway.

I have an Altura Ergo fit.
Worn it on my rides today and yesterday, in warm but wet conditions, and found it to be excellent. Kept the rain out, but, even at level 2 training, didn't feel like a 'boil in the bag' job!

Hopper of Rocks is selling them (all the altura range) at a very reasonable price in the classifieds.

I've got a Gore Phantom II jacket........... can't fault it. It's thin, comfortable, warm and reasonably water resistant. Obviously if you're caught in a sustained downpour, you'll get wet eventually, but it's fine for showers.

The Gore range in general is very good, have a look at their web site. For commuting, you might want to look at one of the mtb jackets, they're a little more roomy and that will allow you to wear 'normal' clothes underneath.

Check this Altura top out, although they are not sold as waterproof, mine is although it gets haevy after a long soaking and it's machine washable. And at this price it's a winner.
