Hello boys and girls,

ive been living in ashbourne for a couple of years and riding for about a year and a half. every weekends me and my girlfriends dad go riding around different locations, anywhere from fairly local to not so local. now ive not got a problem with that because he drives everywhere.

my problem is that durring the week id like to go for a ride or two but there is nothing very exciting around me (unless you count the tissington trail which is rarther boring). ive looked on quite a few os maps and there isnt anything around in riding distance.

so i was wondering if anyone from ashbourne or nearby knew of any half decent routes that they'd be willing to share. id really apreaciate it!

Is Ashboune counted as park of the White Peaks? If so this may be of use/may contain a route around that area or within train traval distance if thats an option.

Failing that, have a look on Just Go Ride website, there may be some user submitted options on there.

Fingers crossed this may help! :)

    Thanks hoochylala,

ive actually got that book and have done most of the rides in it! some really good ones and some soso ones, id deffo recomend it! however none of the rides are in riding range from ashbourne (well without riding for longer than it would take to ride the routes)

ive had a look on the justgoride website and have found a few interesting rides but again nothing in a short ride away. must learn the drive me thinks!

anyone else got any routes? if you'd be willing to show me id really apreaciate it!

    Thread hijack
I'm going to the White Peaks soon and have the book.
As you've ridden some of them, can you tell me what your favourites were please?
I have done the Linacre Classic going anti-clockwise which I would like to do again going the other way, which I reckon would be more enjoyable.

    Cheers

No worries, sorry I couldn't of been more help though!

I too would be interested in the routes/location of the routes that you felt were good from the book as I am looking to do some riding in the White Peak and want to see how far away the best routes are from me.

i havent got the book on me so cant remember the all the routes to the names but the one called 'ashover singletrack special' is rarther good! only one road section. the one i did two weekends ago was called 'Cromford Circuit' and that was good.

i went for a little ride today around a little wood just on the outside of ashbourne and was rarther supprised to find some man made trails there! nice little jumps and such. i didnt actually go out meaning to go there but after spoting the entrance i decided "whats the worst thats gonna happen". whoever built it has done a good job, although it could do with some upkeep and such.

anyway hope that helped you out with the book, ill try and grab the book this weekend and (hopefully) will post the routes that i found to be rarther interesting (and the not so interesting).

If you think there is nothing exciting around Ashbourne, either you haven't looked or you haven't attempted anything other than the Tissington Trail.

The best thing for you to do would be to buy the 1:25000 OS maps of the area and start exploring!

    Here are some pointers though:

There are some good off road sections in the Manifold Valley. These can be linked together to form a ride out of Ashbourne, say: Tissington Trail, Thorpe, Blore, Calton Moor, Rushley, Throwley Hall, Beeston, Stanshope, Alstonefield, Narrowdale, Biggin Dale, Biggin, Tissington Trail back to Ashbourne. I do this ride from Brassington which makes it nearly 60km. From Ashbourne it will 5-10km shorter.

Some nice off road bits around Kniveton, of which Ridge Lane is very good.

SW of Ashbourne, Osmaston Park has a few, short trails.

I can send you PDFs of the routes I do out of Brassington if you give me an email address (send it by PM).

    Have fun!
