could clicking noise when in low gears be due to buggered jockey wheel?

seems to be where the noise is coming from

Probably not. If the jockey wheels were buggered, they'd most likely be clicking throughout the range of the cassette.

More likely the noise is due to chain-rub or cross-chaining. Are you in the big chainring at the front and on one of the larger cogs at the back? Another option may be the 'b' tension screw set too close to the cassette.

Maybe your gears aren't tuned properly and the lower ones are out slightly?
  • +1 for the B-tension screw, especially if it's only in the low gears.

I switched from a 25 to a 27 rear cassette and had to screw in the B-tension screw all the way as the top jockey wheel was touching (and skipping) on the rear cassette cogs when in the lowest gear.

Or it maybe the limit screws not allowing the gear to move across sufficiently to engage fully into the bottom gear. Try unscrewing by a 1/4 of a turn whilst avoid taking any spokes out if you go to far !
