I have never been able to work out the preponderance of 14cm or similar length stems on pro bikes.

It's a must. If anyone attempted to use a shorter stem they would be ridiculed by the rest of the peloton. They are all Euro Pros.

I read that it's because a lot of riders don't like the shorter top tubes you tend to find on modern bikes and so fit longer stems.

Flexibility and the fact that they can get long and low on the bike - most riders ride a frame a size smaller than recommended.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I ride with a 15cm stem, but thats because my legs and torso are almost the same length... I need a smaller seat tube and long top tube, but standard geometry on frames means I need I long stem... With current frame design, the pros face the same issue...

Yeah Im a freaking giant :lol:

No, my body and leg length are I suspect roughly similar, meaning that I need a shorter seat tube and a longer top tube... Some people have long legs but have shorter torso/reach and need smaller top tubes... Im just the opposite

I know a guy who can tuck his 3/4 shorts into his socks. His bikes all look really weird.

I believe in Belgium when you take out your racing license they issue you with a 140mm stem.

Tsk. People like you shouldn't be allowed to have bikes.
