The climb to Ramaz looked and felt far worse than Sean and David were saying. It was a real beast. Many of the photos I took yesterday were about 5km from the summit. At that point the road was exposed and streams of melted tar was running down... The speeds on TV also seemed faster than reality. Almost everybody was climbing in 39x25 and many were having trouble getting a good cadence... The gruppetto were climbing at no more than 11 or 12 kmph.
The decent of Ramaz was frightening - about 15% in place with hairpin after hairpin with steep adverse cambers... Its a pity there were not more TV pics of that decent, but I guess the reason was the speed... I was expecting that decent to provide major headaches...**************************************************

That is an interesting insight. If there was tar running down the roads it relly must have been the 35 degrees or so they were saying. It was good to see so many people handing out water bottles.
Interesting on the descent - I heard that it was going to be tricky so was looking forward to seeing it. I guess it must have been a bit too hard for the tv crew.
I knew the grupetto goes slow but am surprised it was that slow. They rolled in well down on time. I see three Sky riders in there who I would have thought could have made it higher up as well as other names including Karpets.
