Hi all
I am getting a bike through the Bike to work Scheme
Unfortunately my company has tied in with Halfords so i have to choose from their range
I will be using the bike for riding to work and also for fun at the weekend , not too serious riding as i am too unfit !
I have looked at Voodoo GT and Boardman bikes and these models
Voodoo : Bantu & Bokor
GT:Aggressor XCR '09
Boardman : Pro 2010
They are all Hardtail , i want to be able to lock the front shocks out too
All the bikes have good reviews but i want the best one i can get , i wont be buying another bike for a while
I have read a fewa reviews and some people have moaned about Sram gear not being as good as Shimano , is this true ?
Any help would be great
Steve

The GT is a heavier, tougher, longer travel bike for more serious terrain.
The Boardman Pro is more cross country oriented.
The Voodoos are again more cross country.
Why not visit the store and try some for size?0 -
I intend to get to the store this coming weekend for a little saddle time
In the mean time i need to start the process of applying.
Is it true about SHIMANO gears being better than SRAM ? i have SRAM on an old Full suspension bike i have and they have been ok for me , but then the bike is about 7 years old
I have never heard of Voodoo bikes before but everything i see has them being praised

It is personal preference, some prefer Shimano over SRAM and vice versa. Shimanos budget ranges do tend to function better in my eyes.0

The Boardman bikes are the lightest of the lot but the prices are high , they weigh 2,kg less on average than most the other bikes
On a 14 mile a day ride this difference will start to show pretty quick i guess , i wont be riding to work every day, i will have to start slow and work up to it

Don't forget some other shops are in the halford scheme.
Leisure lakes for one I know off, there are others and Halfords say they can get most bikes but this dose not mean the price is competive.
So you can spend you voucher there and there may be better chose.

It just depends on what you want it to do like SS says. The Boardman is a superb XC bike, not ridden the Voodoos but they seem good too, I'd have the GT myself just because it's a more capable/harder hitting bike but not everyone wants or needs that...
Wouldn't rule out the Boardman FS for that matter.Uncompromising extremist0 -
The Voodoo won a 'best under £600' in a magzine (can't remember which one) taking joint first with the rockhopper disc.
