Hi

I'm new the forum however have been browsing for quite a while but have never got round to registering. I'm Looking to get a road bike under the cycle to work scheme, I've currently got a Marin mountain bike but after doing the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride the other week I've decided that I need something better as I do most of my riding on road or canal paths.

I've narrowed my choices down to the following two bikes:

Cannondale CAAD 8 Tiagra Triple 2010 Road Bike

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/can ... cannondale

Or

Specialized Allez Elite 2010 Road Bike

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... specilized

If anyone can think of a better bike in this this sort of price range let me know, reason I'm not using the full £1000 is I also want to by some accessories and for some reason these bikes don't have pedals so will need to look at them too.

Thanks
David

Both capable bikes and good for the price band. Do you really need a triple? A compact double would possibly be sufficient and certainly if you hve a decent level of fitness - but horses for courses.

The key thing is to try the bikes to see how it feels and fit for you. The Cannondale is a little racier in geometry than the Specialized. There are other bikes available and they are all much of a muchness so it comes down to personal choice once you have tried them out.

I assume Boardman are not on the radar as they will be on a Halfords C2W which your company may not be signed up to but if they are then these are worth looking at.

Also Trek 1.7 may be worth a look.
    Trek Madone 5.9
    Kinesis Crosslight T4

Sorry to sound like beginner but what do you mean by triple and compact double? I presume it's regarding the gears?

We have an Evans Cycles not to far from here so I'm going to try and get down there one night this week to have test on some different ones.

I've only narrowed it down to those two bikes based on reviews and what I have read on here.

I'm definitely open to looking a different bikes that people recommend.

The best one is the one that fits and fits your requirements, if that means a triple. Who cares, it's your choice.

Decent bikes come without pedals, so you can choose the pedals, you'll need clipless ones and shoes.
