I was over in Melbourne recently and went into http://www.bscbikes.com.au/mobilelanding/ the one at 7-9 Artemis Lane, QV Building, Melbourne CBD.
They had a nice selection of Pivot and GT bikes and the guy I spoke to seemed knowledgeable and helpful. They have another store in Melbourne as well (on Elizabeth St) and I was told they stocks Yeti's.
Not sure on Sydney I am afraid.0 -
Cheers, mate.
I have to go next week (work), so I figured I'd have a look around if I get a spare minute. I can't believe that I'm off to NZ and Aus and not getting the chance to ride over there!
At least I may be able to pick up something nice from a bike shop though!0 -

Have visited Melbourne and Sydney bit didn't notice any bike shops in either town. Saw a bike shop in Cairns and a workshop type co-op place in Auckland if that helps.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Thanks, guys.
Might be a good if I don't get the chance to get to any bike shops...the credit card might go into meltown, and I don't think I'll be able to claim a new bike on expenses!0 -
There are plenty and they're not that difficult to find. Although to get to some with better reputations you'll need some private transport. As they aren't always conveniently close to public transport.
But you should be warned. If your looking for a bargain (relative to European prices) or a wider (or different) range of stuff, you might be disappointed.
Given the demographics and logistics of the cycling market in Oz, you find that firstly; stuff is noticeably more expensive than here. Secondly, the range isn't always as wide and the american and Asian markets has a greater influence So you'll find more inferior american products flooding the market there.
Having said that, I've always found the staff (in general) are more knowledgeable and friendly than here.0 -
If you come to Rotorua we have 7 bike shops plus some awesome riding and a few shops allow you to hire bikes and there is a group called planet cycles who are parked in a big van out at the Waipa car park (5mins from town centre) and they have loads of bikes to hire as well.
