S-Works Enduro SL Carbon just finished.

I picked up a new 2008 S-Works Enduro for a great price a few weeks back at the Specialized store in Birmingham. I'd been looking to swap my 08 Stumpjumper FSR to an Enduro for a while and struck gold when I found this.
I've just got the build up finished after having to get a faulty brake caliper replaced and doing a bit of trial and error to get a bar/stem combination that I liked.
Full spec:
Frame - 2008 S-Works Enduro SL
Fork - 2010 RS Revelation Team Maxle, 150mm
Wheels - Hope Pro 2 hubs, DT DB spokes, Mavic XM819 rims
Drvetrain - XTR front mech, XT rear mech, cassette, chainset, shifters and pedals
Brakes - Hope Tech M4, floating rotors, 203mm fr, 183 rr
Tyres - Maxxis Ardent 2.25 UST, running tubeless
Bars - Easton Monkey Lite carbon riser
Stem - Race Face Atlas AM
Saddle - SDG Bel Air Ti
Post - Thomson Elite
The forks, bars and stem were bought new for this build, with the rest of the kit coming off the Stumpjumper.
The Enduro frame is amazingly light for a 6" travel bike - 5.5lbs including shock. It's 1/2 lb lighter than the aluminium Stumpjumper frame
All up weight is 28lbs including pedals. The current tyres are very heavy - when they've worn out I'll try a pair of Spesh Eskars, which will knock 3/4 lbs off in one hit.
The big rotors are on for a trip to the Alps at the end of the month - I'll drop a size on each when I get back. Also looking at getting a pair of Formula brakes if I see a set for a decent price. A few other minor upgrades should bring it down to near 26 lbs.
I did a good ride out on the Peaks today and it rides superbly - it climbs as well as the Stumpjumper did and eats up the rocky downhills.

A great bike and a fine choice - welcome to the club.
With some carefull component choice you'll get it down to possibly sub 25lbs!

Agreed XT isn't as bling as SRAM X-0, but it works faultlessly and doesn't cost the earth. I'm liking the look of the new XTR All-mountain range which is due out next year, so there could be a few upgrades in the pipeline....0 -

Welcome to the enduro club, awesome bike fella !, I've got eskars on mine, seem pretty good and grippy, v light for a big tyre.
Every time i see a customised/bespoke enduro I think I need to start customizing mine hmmm.., must not give in to the voices arghhhh.0 -

I know that feeling well.
I've been chopping and changing frames, forks and wheels on a regular basis since I got back into biking last summer. I'm hoping this Enduro will keep me happy for a good while - at the moment there isn't anything out there which I'd change it for. I'm pretty happy with the component mix as it stands, so the endless CRC packages should be at en end.0 -

A few changes before I take the bike down to the Alps next weekend. Changed to a dual chainring setup - Race Face bash ring, 36T middle ring and Black Spire chain device.
Did a few miles on it around the woods this afternoon and it rides really well on the new gearing. The 36t ring is the one off the dual ring SLX crank - I did fit one for a standard triple initially, but the raised shifting shoulders caught the chain in the top gears on the granny ring.
The SLX one has a different profile and is designed to work properly with a 22t granny.

Could you let me know how you get on with the BlackSpire Stinger?
I've often thought of doing this with my Enduro. I did try the E13 LG1+, but I need two rings really.

i have the stinger on mine, the roller is positioned further up the way i have it but it is a brill bit of kit.

I did try it a bit further up when I had the bike up on the workstand, but it pulls the chain around the roller at quite a tight angle and it didn't fell that smooth when you span the pedals.
I found it ran smoother with the roller a bit lower down and tight to the bash ring.
Has the alloy frame Enduro got mounting points, or did you fit a BB mounted one?
No mounts on the carbon frame, and I had to 'tweak' the mounting plate a little to get the chain line spot on.0 -

I'll report back with a final verdict in a few weeks time. First impressions are that you don't even know it's there - no noise or rumbles from the chain and the front shifts very nicely with the SLX double ring fitted.0 -

@ Mark - What was involved with the 'tweak' if you don't mind me asking?
@ sheeps - Haven't really researched it, so I didn't know the Blackspire could run with 3 rings - how do you get on with it?

im only running 2 rings but i did it for clearance so i didnt see the point in fitting a bash which would have occupied some of the newly created space below the chainset when riding.
as before, it is mega. i havent ever lost a chain is the truth but i never did befor it was fitted. i was advised to fit one as the lack of big ring could mean chain loss, im not sure how true that is but if nowt else, it looks cool!0 -

I've had chainsuck a few times, off the grannyring once and descending on rough stuff the chain thwacks around a lot (even in large rings).
I'm thinking the stinger might end this.0 -

I had to tweak it in towards the granny to get the edge of the roller to sit on the bash ring.
I got it from a trader on ebay - I tried the usual retailers, but the BB mount one seems quite hard to find. I think I paid £25 for it. The bash ring and middle ring both came from CRC.0 -

The Blackspire goes in place of the spacer, so it's next to the frame and then the BB cup screws on to hold it. It looks like it'll line up fine on a 68mm wide BB, but with the 73mm wide BB on the Enduro it was slightly too far over.0

i cant see why the width of the shell will have an effect, the chainrings are still the same distance from the edge of the shell so the stinger should fit fine regardless.0

Yeah, you're right sheeps', the only difference would be if it was mounted the other side of the BB spacer(s).
Whatever, if I go for the stinger, I'll be modifying like Mark.0 -
Just back from a great week in the Alps with the Enduro
Did a few days in Chamonix, then down to Alp D'Huez and spent a few days around Morzine and Les Gets on the way back up, doing 8 days of pretty hard riding in total. The riding was a mixture of natural singletrack, red and black DH runs at the bike parks anda circuit of the Portes Du Soleil enduro route.
After the first day I made a few mods to better handle the steepness of the singletrack and speed and braking bumps in the parks. I bumped up the pressure in the forks by 15psi and added 10psi to the rear shock, stuck a 2.5" super tacky High Roller DH tyre on the front and fitted some M535 caged SPD's.
The bike was performed superbly - it was just perfect for most of the riding we did. The only time it felt a bit out of place was on the faster DH runs at Les Gets/Morzine where an 8" travel DH rig is pretty well mandatory - the massive braking bumps are pretty harsh on a 6" bike.
Apart from a few loose spokes in the rear wheel the bike was problem free - not even a single puncture on the whole trip. The chain device did the job, the brakes didn't overheat and nothing broke.
I've added a few items to my CRC wish list since getting back - the new Rock Shox dropper seatpost will save a lot of faffing around getting the right height for changing terrain. I'm also liking the look of the Mavic Crossmax SX wheels - the Hope/819's are good, but it was real struggle to fit a big DH tyre to such a narrow rim and a wider rim would give a better profile.The SX's will save a chunk of weight as well.
Next time I go I'll fit a set of 2.5" Minion super tacky tubeless DH tyres from the outset - the extra weight just isn't an issue if you're getting lifts up the hills. 8)0
