I am looking at getting into road cycling as a way of keeping fit after a broken leg removed the option of continuing running (high impact). I have in mind weekly rides and long early Sunday rides. I have am regular MTB rider.

I am not a member of a club and the choice of bikes for £1000 - £1500 is massive.

- What do I need to look for ?
- Any recommendations ?
- Should I wait for sales ??

Any info would be very wlecome.

Thanks,

Neil

It would be good to have some pointers before tackling the "salesman"at the local bike shop !!!! Even if it to validate that the advice being given is good. £1000 - £1000 is a substantial sum for me.

  • hi mate, have been going through the same thing myself. the choice is immense. i had a knee op a couple of years ago which does come back to haunt me. i've learnt one thing from all this searching, comfort is key! i'm not sure whether you'll be racing or sportive riding or maybe just getting fit again? heres a few nice bikes i was impressed with.

boardman team carbon. £999 i rode a mates, awsome. but good luck getting a test ride out of halfords.

cannondale 6 special ltd edition. evans cycles are advertising this bad boy on their web site at £1399 with (2011) 105 groupsets exclusive to them. you should check this out, its a serious bike at that money. cycling plus bike of the year.

i've decided on a van nicholas mistral. ive never heard a bad thing said against them, in fact its quite the opposite. £1445 for a titanium bike. thats the bike for me.

at the end of the day its personal choice, and needs. i've been looking for 8 months for the right bike. even now i'm thinking of upgrading to a van nicholas euros with athena group set. i havent even bought the mistral yet! try before you buy
