what way should the 8mm bolt be turned to unscrew in fig.4?
It ain't budging, so before I really give it some I want to be 100% but this tech doc is rubbish....

As said, right tight, left loose.
It's a self extracting bolt so you don't need anything other than the 8mm, however I found mine was seized solid. I got it loose eventually through a combination of 3-in-1 penetrating oil (far better than WD40 and the like), a breaker bar, and heating it with flame! Tied the crank to the frame with rope also.
When re-fitting I'd advise using anti-seize grease on the thread.0
