radio bugging

I heard someone say today that there was a rumour that Radio Shack were in trouble for having listened in to conversations between riders and race directors of other teams. It wasn't explained how.
There are lots of simple cheap bugging devices, but I think they have to be within 20 ft of whom you're trying to listen to, and I don't imagine any team would go so far as to plant bugs in other teams' cars, buses, etc. So it would have to be something more sophisticated.
Anyone else heard the rumour or know more?

I think that's an old rumour - pretty sure I've heard it before (and certainly wouldn't put it past the Hog )

Can't see it being genuine myself.

First of all the radios are probably scrambled for security, but obviously it may be possible to crack this

Secondly, it would take at least one dedicated person to track all of the conversations, which will be in several languages. Even if they are following just three teams it will be tricky and the DS himself can't do it. By the time the info is relayed for the listener to the DS to the rider, what was going to happen has probably already happened.

Thirdly, by and large what is said over the radios isn't that illuminating. It's generally DSs relaying information, giving encouragement and generally stating the bleeding obvious. The intelligence garnered is pretty low quality.

In summary, the juice isn't really worth the squeeze.
