Can you afford Shimano? If so, you can afford Campag.

How about get a bike you like and lose the weight off yourself. Probably a lot cheaper per kg.

Thats the plan mate. I can loose 14lb in weight max. The rest will be loosing weight on the bike.

I can get myself down to 80kg's, the rest is kit.

Oh and as for afording Campag its Super Record i want. £650 for ultegra groupo. £1500 for super record groupo. big differance in pice.

You can't compere ultegra to super record , ultegra isn't the top of the range shimano groupset .... you can get super record for well below 1500 quid aswell

If you are trying to come up with your ideal bike surely there's no point in asking other people :?

Pretty much any built up carbon framed bike with half decent wheels will come in within 7.5kg. An Addict R2 with Ksyriums and and Ultegra group is about 7.1kg for a 54cm.

You'd probably be better off losing weight rather than just loosing it. If you loose it it tends to flap around a lot.

Your comparison is somewhat bogus. You said about affording Campagnolo, Freehub's point was there are comparably priced groupsets from each manufacturer...

Karl - there is this thing called google right - type in super record groupset and it gives you as the first result:

    http://www.slanecycles.com/campagnolo-s ... rrency=GBP

I reckon it must be cheaper out there somewhere, but I wouldn't be looking at S Record anyway, I'd be buying SRAM Red from here http://www.fudgescyclestore.com/index.php?p=73424 and getting some spiffy wheels if I had that sort of money...

Your choice of Super Record Crankset and an SRM Power Meter are mutually exclusive, i.e. you can't have both, because th SRM is based on a custom crankset, so that will save you money.

Colnago C59 with Cinelli RAM bar/stem combo
    Campagnolo Hyperon Ultra wheels (tub)
    Campagnolo Super Record 11 Gruppo
    Fizik Arione Carbon

Don't care how much it weighs - chuck it up in the air on a windy day - like today - and it'd blow away!

Price? Don't even want to think about it

Campag SR groupset with AX Lightness Orion Brakes and Fibre Lyte carbon chainrings

    Lightweight Obermeyer Wheels

    AX Lightness Seatpost

    Schmolke carbon bars

Can we, for once and for all, put an end to all those who say "Dont lose weight on your bike, just drop a few pounds."

Anyone who knows anything about physics knows that shaving 400g of rotating mass off your wheels will do loads more than losing half a kilo. I understand the argument "stop spending money, blah, blah, blah"... but if you're going to make an argument, have some sort of proof behind it.

HAHA, (my bold) I guess you aren't one of them.

Rotating mass is largely an overemphasised concept.

    See my bike link, below.

Does me, and I dream about it. If I had ££££'s I'd get next years superleggera version with the new racier geometry as seen coming 2nd today....

alright... i dont want to start an argument here, but i've changed between an old, heavy aluminum frame to a lightweight carbon and i've also changed from bomber training wheels to carbon tubs. The frame change made a huge difference in the way the bike rode, true, did it make me much faster... not really. Changing to a lighter set of wheels, on the other hand, translates to speed. I'm not a physics professor but i've done my research. It's very possible, and likely, that you have more experience than me on the subject, but i DO have experience out on the road, where you can feel it.

    meh??

    and your point is????

this is a dream, light bike thread, and has nothing to do with whether it makes you better!!!
  • redddraggon

Better wheels should feel faster, but the difference between rotating mass and static mass when applied to bicycle is only a few percent.

So 500g lost elsewhere will normally beat 400g on the wheels in a pure weight loss sense. Aerodynamics are far more important for wheels.

    2_9_gr.jpg

Or the much more sensible aluminium one, weighing in at at a lardy 4.2kg
