    No idea? :?

    I'll have to weigh it.

Doubt it's mega light, but it won't be heavy either.

  • Tasty,

how do you get on with the Nobby Nics? I've just fitted a pair to my 2008 Orange 5 and am yet to b econvinced bythem, i don't seem to have the same cornering confidence as I did with my Rubber Queens.

And nice idea with the rim tape, where did you get it from, I fancy some orange on my Orange and that would be a cheap way of achieving it?

I got the rim tape from eBay, plenty of sellers on there.

I'm getting on fine with the NICs, not sure if they make any difference over the standard ones, but these are the new Evo type with the SnakeSkin side walls.

I usually run about 33psi in the rear and 30psi in the front and I'm getting on pretty good with them like that.

  • I've got the 2010 Evo USTs 'All Grounders', I'll try different pressures and see how I get on with them!

That maybe the difference, I'm not using them tubeless, mine are not UST. Or then it could just be a different riding style.

That's the thing I find difficult with the "what tyres" questions as different bikes and riding styles require different tyres and pressures.

is it me or is your rear tyre on the wrong way round? might handle better if you swap it round....

Nope, it's you. It's on the right way around.

....had me worried there for a bit.........even just went and checked the rotation marks. :?

  • That's been bugging me since I fitted the Nics, they just look wrong!
  • Although I like Orange bikes I don't like the shape of them that much. Love the red detail on yours though, it looks great.

I can understand why people don't like them as it hasn't got 75 pivot points to make it look good and it's all box section.

For me, that's half the fun, it looks like it's been knocked together by a bloke in his garage (and to be honest if you look at the Orange factory unit, it's not far from the truth) and that appeals to me. British engineering at it's best.

It's none of this fancy nonsense that you don't need. Another great thing is it's single pivot point means low/no maintenance.

Lastly, it works, that was the main reason for buying it.

  • Yes indeed. heavy duty industrial looking bikes. I guess that's part of their appeal. They are nice to ride though, although I don't own one.

thats weird that, because they look to be both facing the same direction, not sure on the new ones but on last years nics the rear was on the opposite way round to the front one..on the side of the tyre it had directional arrows stating one way for front tyre and another for rear tyre? well at least it does on mine...the new ones must be different then..

So did they used to have a different tyre front and back like the Minions, or just markings showing direction for front and back?

The only direction markers on the new ones are just rotation, so they both point the same way.

No the tyres are exactly the same, where it says nic on the sidewall just above that are the rotational markers <front rear> so if it's on the front then you put the tyre on with the <front marker facing forward, if it's on the rear then you put it on with the rear> marker facing forward....this gives you more grip on the front tyre because the grips face outward and more speed on the rear because the grips face inward..looking at the new ones I presumed the same principle would apply?

I found I had some issues with my Nics just recently. Then I realised i'd put the wrong size inner tube in after my last puncture. Before that they were just fine though.

I picked up some blue ones from Clee Cycles for £27.99. They have red ones too, all made by KCNC.

The Jockey wheels are from Canada, very cheap, considering getting the guy I got them off to ship a load of them over, complete with ceramic bearings.

As for the seat clamp, there is already a red bolted Hope seat clamp coming in the post, as I don't need a QR anymore and sometimes I catch my shorts on the Orange one.

Handlebars will be next as it's still got the standard narrow Orange one on there.
