Hi looking to get some 160mm travel forks and wanted to get a few opinions...

I love Fox and am unsure on 36 TALAS, 36 VAN, 36 FLOAT?

(Had floats on my stumpy 120mm and loved them)

I hear good things about Rock Shox Lyrik is this a worthy competitor? Looks cool too!

Any and all views on this subject welcomed....pls help me make up my mind....

What to do????....

The ones you mention are the obvious choices. You tend to get a bit more adjustment for the cash with Rockshox.

Coil springs are generally heavier, but can feel smoother.

Talas and Uturn are useful for changing travel.

TALAS IMO isn't as effective as u-turn, sure it's faster but the fork doesn't work as well as the Float equivalents generally, and the shorter settings tend to be a bit compromised, whereas uturn gives you a fork that works just as well at different settings. If you just want climbing mode that's fair enough but if you want to use it to its full at different settings uturn wins IMO.

Still, Float 36s are brilliant if you don't want travel adjust.

If you don't need travel adjust, and don't mind the weight, Fox Vannila 36's are unbelievably butterty smooth.

The Floats are also very plush but don't rule out the Rock Shox stuff, if you can get the Fox stuff for around the same price as RS then I would go for that without a thought but if the RS stuff is a lot cheaper, that is also very good.

Make sure you spend the extra on the RC2 models if you go Fox, it is worth every penny for the adjustablity

nice one guys I keep being told RC2's are the best - any need to go all the way to RLC?

Also - having adjustment is defo what i need -

Wait untill next year when they go 'simplar'

This year, there are no, and never have been, RLC 36's, it's only R or RC2

get RLC if you use lockout at the moment, or would use if you had it. some find it useful, some don't

I don't think there's a "best" from all those, just personal preference. They're all pretty much at the top of their game.
  • I've recently changed from Revelation to Float. I'd say the Revs are definitely stiffer but the Floats are lighter, smoother and the lockout is much more effective. There's good deals to be had on Fox 09 forks if you can live without the latest FIT technology.

You must be comparing with 32s?

Not yet but next year there will be.

I believe you can use the compression adjustment to act as some form of lockout

Then I also concur that he's comparing the 32 to the revelation.

I also concur he is comparing to 32's then, I kinda guessed when he said Revs are stiffer

I was puzzled by the revs remark, but I've never ridden a pair of them in anger, so I withheld my judgement

If it's new, yes and tell me where please ;) If not, depends on model and condition.
