Hi All

What do you think of Avid Elixir R brakes? Are they that much inferior to the CR version?
What is the difference between the Elixir 5's and the Elixir R?

Many thanks

The only diffeence is the R has tool free lever adjust wheras you have to use an allen key on the 5's and the R has an adjustable hose angle at the caliper

I would just go for the 5 for the saving and put the extra money towards some spare kevlar or sintered pads from Superstar

Price, looks, general build quality - pivots ect.

Stopping power will remain pretty similar across the range.

I have the 5s - would the CRs be worth the extra £100 in terms of stopping me - no.

What is that barrel adjuster on the lever for? Apols for the ignorance.

    Thanks for responses guys

that said, the cr carbons are worth every penny for the winter comfort of carbon levers.

    What barrel adjuster?

Do you mean the tool free lever adjust?

5s still do have an adjuster.

The barrel adjuster on the CR adjusts the pad contact point - which is supposed to give you some control over the dead stroke and help you to stop the pads touching the disc when you're not braking.

It doesn't work that well IME. Unless you're really weight or bling conscious, I'd go for the elixir 5 or even the new elixir 3 if you can get them.
