Yellow jersey?

I own a Giant Defy 3 in Yellow Black White. I have just purchased a Gore jersey in Lemon to match said colour scheme. Having been watching a certain race this week I realise this may have been a bit of a faux pas on my part. I am new to all this so am I going to recieve looks of disdain from my fellow roadies or as the jersey is just a plain unsponsered type is this cool?

You will get some negative comments from those with a racing bias.

HOWEVER in my opinion yellow is best - it is "hi-viz" - being squashed by a truck is definitely not cool!

Although red shows up well to those with normal vision, there are a lot of red-green colour blind drivers out there - and you don't want to look the same colour as the hedges and trees......

At the end of the day, who cares? Theres too much going on in the world for someone to really care, and, if they do they are therefor not worthy of your time thinking about it. I wear a Radioshack jersey alot, it was cheap and fitted well, I get looks and people shouting 'gooooo!' and similar racey comments, shove 'em! I'm having a better time than them. Plus as mentioned before yellows a great colour. If its a worry, you shouldnt wear shoes when driving, Jenson Button does that...

My bike and most of my kit is balck/red/white mix. II look like i'm sponsored by Castelli, my credit does dispute this though. Nothing wrong with matching kit and bike

Yellow's the best colour for attracting greenfly and other bugs, still, if it stops them going in your mouth it's a bonus :D

As long as it doesn't clash with your bike, helmet or shorts, who cares? A far greater sin are those 'bargain bin' disasters, of mis-matched shorts and jersey.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I don't think anyone cares. Just tell them to get a life to their face, see how they like it. It'll sting since it'll be a valid point. :D

Although it might be odd if you're 20 stone and wearing a KoM jersey.

The ones that tend to care about these things are making up for being physically weak cyclists generally. Propensity to worship cycling culture is inversely related to wattage/race results.

As people have said wear what you like and what you think is safest etc. I dont get this whole image snobbery stuff. Like people wont buy a Trek because they dont want to look like a Lance Armstrong wannabe or wont wear certain colours / clothes. Are people really that bothered what everyone else thinks?

We had a good chuckle at the sportive I did on Sunday gone as I was not only wearing my yellow jersey but I was also number 001  That made for some good banter whilst we were waiting to start!

Anyone that gives you looks of disdain because of what you ride or what you wear isn't worth the time of day anyway so it's no loss to you is it!

There's also a difference between wearing a jersey that's yellow, and a replica Yellow Jersey. Not that there's anything wrong with either, but there is a difference.
