Or maybe the 2001 rift Zone??

Either way I don't think it was built to take a fork that long.

It might take a fork that long if it wa a Wolf Ridge, or Attack Trail.
They're pretty good bikes, the bearings for the swingarm are still free to replace, they pedal well, and will take some abuse.

I'm not sure they're as strong as the original tubular framed versions, but they're quite a bit lighter.

Well, not sure if this is any help at all, since I can't remember the years of the changes, but...

They originally came out with round profile tubing like my old bike (in my sig)
Then they changed to a monocoque like in the picture you have above
then (I think) they added a travel adjust like in the picture you have
then they mvoed the pivot to a little 4-bar system underneath the downtube, stayed like that for a while.
Then they came out with the new shape - like my new bike in my sig.

So, if you can find a wolfridge of a known year, maybe that will help you determine how old this one is?
They're still great bikes though, the old single pivot system works great, as evidenced by Orange 5s, Santa cruz Hecklers/Superlights etc etc.

    mixed reviews so far

Wants 400 for it but older than I want unless I go for something retro! Think i'm going to leave it.

    400 seems a bit steep.

my thoughts exactly. Might try and get a retro Santa Cruz hardtail or a Carrera carbon hardtail instead.

Mind you, you'd be very hard pushed to find a better full suss bike for double what he's asking.
