I am currently trying to get a road bike. I am new to this whole scene. I have read on different website that the Trek 1.2 is a pretty good bike for beginners.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for other bikes or what parts i should switch from this bike if I got it.

  • I have a Trek 1.7 from 2008. I bought this mainly because it suited me being 6'4" (194cm). Very happy with my purchase.

Giant have recently released a 2010 Mid-season range in Austrlia consisting of a TCR 1 and TCR 0. These seem an absolute bargain (online prices are not as good as I have seen instore) and I have been considering getting the TCR 0.

The TCR 1 would be a good alternative to the Trek 1.2 if available in your area.

I've been riding a Trek 1.2 Compact (2010) for about a year now and love it.

Have had an issue with the crankset (see other post) but that was due to me screwing on a pedal wrongly.

Very sturdy bike. The one thing I would say about it is that the handlebards are quite wide. Worth looking at before you buy.

Picked mine up for £600 which was, in my eyes, a bargain.

The Trek is a nice bike if a little bland IMO - but then we all have different tastes.

I'm not sure of availability in the UK but I picked up a new Willier Xenon for £600 recently for use as a commuter/winter trainer. Very pleased with it and it is bit different to the usual Specializeds and Treks that every body seems to be on here.

Well worth trying out if you can find one in a sale.
