Specialized Secteur Elite Sizing

Went to my LBS a few days ago and test rode the Secteur Elite. The size of the frame was a 54 M-L. Was told that within each frame size, there are M and ML sizes. I've been trying to find out the geometry specs but on the Specialized website they only have it categorized as 54, 56, etc and not the 'sub-sizes'. Just trying to get an idea on how a M would differ from a M-L. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Brian,

I have an Elite but this is the first time I have heard of "sub sizes", which may expose my lack of knowledge rather than imply anything about the advice you were given by the LBS. It might be worth contacting a Spesh concept store to get to the bottom of this. There are a few good ones mentioned on this thread

I have an elite too and it's the 56, not heard of the sub sizes either, I am 5' 10" but I do have a longish inside leg which meant going for a 56 but having a slighter shorter stem.

I suspect they are bullshitting you. Chances are they don't have any S or L sized framed bikes in stock, the M and M-L being general guide lines as to Medium and Medium-Large
  • I went to try an Allez elite at a LBS with a good local reputation, but was totally unconvinced by the staff's opinions on what size I should have as I had already looked up the recommended size on the Specialized website. It was pretty much getting me to stand over the one on display (56L) and telling me it looked fine even though I am 6'2" with a 33" inside leg.

I was recommended to try the Concept shop in Harrogate by a neighbour and was very impressed by the sizing fit they did on me, which placed me slap bang n the middle of the range for the 58XL frame. It was well worth the 30 mile round trip for the piece of mind and they will be getting plenty of my custom in the future.

I went to my LBS for my Allez convinced I'd need a 54. They didn't disagree but didn't have one in stock.

So I decided to go to another shop a few more miles away and had a great chat to them and ended up with a 52. Fit is perfect.

I tried a 54 there but they said it looked as if I'd borrowed it !

Shameless plug for Peter at Minster Cycles in Beverley, great service and one very happy customer.

  • Iam 6ft 5 and went for the 61 cm after sitting on the 58 in my LBS.
I find that i need the seat post pretty high even with this frame size so be careful.
Which ever size you choose you won't be dissapointed.

You do need an above average amount of seat post showing as the headtube is very high. Too big a frame and you will be sitting too upright (even for a sportive bike)

I'm also 6ft 5 and went straight for the 61 cm (XXL), normally I would ride a 64/65 cm standard frame. the all important top tube length on the secteur is very well proportioned. I'm very happy with the quality and fit of the bike but just choose sensibly. sub sizes - no such thing on these bikes.

Not sure where you live but I can recommend cycle kingdom in fleet, hampshire. They know their stuff.
  • The OP bought a bike 2 months ago according to their second and final post on another thread.
    Check the dates guys

I am 6'2" and have recently bought a Specialized Roubaix. The Roubaix has exact the same geometry as the Secteur

Because I had previously researched the geometry and had a fair idea what might fit I went to the Specialized Concept Store in Plymouth thinking I might well get a 56cm sized frame. This is because the Secteur / Roubaix has a very long head tube compared with other bikes

But the test ride was on a 58cm so I decided to go for that instead

I think your LBS are getting confused about sizes. Giant have a size ML, Specialized don't
  • I'm 6`0" and have the 56 frame, feels right to me.

It does sound like the frame could be a bit big and yet you say that it feels right. Why not try a 56 and see how that feels? Ask the shop if you can do a turbo session or a test ride and see how you get on.

Also, why not try a few other bikes while you are at in, in various sizes, and then try the Secteur in a 58 again...might not feel so good, then again it just might.
