Hi I am looking for a replacement for my decathlon 7.2 which is about 5 years old.

I have seen the following:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... 65710#dtab

It seems like a good deal, does anybody on here have one?

Any comments on the above bike are more than welcome.

Thanks

Chris

  • Most of the replies you will get will be buy second hand as the money you have will get you more.

But you asked about the Carrera.

I bought this bike last Sunday and it has been a great first bike so far.
I've only done 30 miles on it as I have a chest infection and haven't been able to get out.

Downsides? Seat is a little uncomfortable for me but that is replaceable and the pedals seem to give me pins and needles but that may be my shoes.

Also Halfords didn't set it up for me so i had to do that myself.

Hope this helps you a bit

Dont know about the Carrera, but I did just get an email from Decathlon, they have BTWIN Sport 2 reduced by £100 down to £399.

£100 more but looks a better spec - might be worth having a glance.

iIs a fine bike. Make sure you get the right size... And if you are not able to set it up your self ask a bike shop to do it for you. ( i would not be trusting halfords as they can be hit and miss.

I would recomend getting better tyres and getting the wheels cheacked over by bike shop as it will improve the ride feel and durability of the wheels and bike. This can cost £60-£70 for the work and new tyres.

At £300 you could get something nice second hand but you have to know what you are looking for and be willing to wait for the right thing to come along in your size.

I had a similar bike from Halfords and whilst it was a good starter bike, it's ride was a little bit harsh and also because the gears were 39/52 and 12-23 it was hard work getting up hills when first starting out. If I was buying something around that price I would prob go for the Raleigh AIRlite 100. Why? Carbon Fork better Chainset ie FSA branded rather than no name as well as being a compact chainset. I believe it is over a kilo lighter as well.
