How is this possible?

Police hunting suspected gunman Raoul Moat have said that the "net is closing" as an exclusion zone is set up around a Northumberland town.

It has also been revealed that two men taken hostage by him have been found and arrested for conspiracy to murder.

Moat, 38, has been on the run since allegedly shooting three people, killing one of them, on Saturday.

I know the UK isn't a just nation but how is it possible to be taken hostage and end up arrested for the crimes of the hostage taker?

Maybe they were conspirators before the hostage taking?

Maybe we should wait to find out about it all when there are facts rather than speculation?

Eh?? Wheres the fun in that??

If we did that then this 'ere bit of the forum would have maybe two posts.

As a bit of local colour for the story, the town in question is Rothbury. I was there a few months back - great and numerous tea-rooms. :)

that explains why they're taking so long to find the fella - if they have to stop for a brew & cake in each of those tea rooms.... ;)

Incidentally - is 'Raoul' a popular name in the north east..??

Don't understand why it's taking so damn long. The bar steward should have been shot dead by now. Perhaps this is why Derrick Bird killed so many, cos the police were so damn slow.

It's hard to find one person over an area of hundreds of sq miles. Particularly if they don't want to be found.

It would be a lot easier if they just asked him to wear a tracking device for a few hours, then count to a hundred.

I lived in Northumbria for a few months and used to get hopelessly lost on those back roads even with the aid of an OS map and a compass! If he has local knowledge, it coulld be hard to find / capture him in that sizable area.

According to the papers he has all sorts of underworld connections who'd harbour him.
Apparently he's addicted to steroids too.

  • Why do'nt they place some 6pks a larger around the area...he's bound to want a 'Tinnie' sometime or maybe some "Newkie Brown' that would 'Flush him out'

Helicopter with heat seeking camara....do the police only use them to make TV programs like "Police Camara Action"

To be fair he has over reacted a bit to being dumped by his girlfriend. After all there must be loads of women our there looking for a ginger haired, steroid addicted psychopath. It is the north east after all.

Doesn't work inside houses or under dense foliage...

Scanning vast areas takes days and he may just move to an area you've already done anyhoo!

Besides, I'm sure some money is made from filming people 'driving like idiots crashing in to berks...' (c. Alan Partridge).
