Hi there,

A friend of mine is cycling from Brighton to a campsite near Uckfield this weekend and they're trying to work out a nice route but Google maps just wants them to take the A27.

So the question is, does anyone know of any good websites that theycan use to work out a route by any chance?

    bikehike
    toporoute

I tend to choose bikehike, but these and others are all fine too.

    '09 Enigma Eclipse with SRAM.
'10 Tifosi CK7 Audax Classic with assorted bits for the wet weather
'08 Boardman Hybrid Comp for the very wet weather.

Another +1 - nice and simple and you can download your route to a file.

I really like cyclestreet.net because it gives you a choice of quiter and busier routes. However its not perfect as with a bit of local knowledge you can refine it a bit more, especially in London.

For my journey from Brixton Hill to Archway cyclestreet was stating 9.5 miles and putting me through E&C round about. With a little bit of a change I got the route down to 9miles and no busy round about. Basically what Im trying to say is as good as these things are they are not perfect so double check your route.

Bikehike (and others of course) work seamlessly with Garmin GPS units. The only thing I wish I could change on Bikehike would be the ability to make the right hand map (OS or if you toggle, elevation) smaller so that the main planning map could fill my screen better. Picky point really, it does work so well.

I've had some good results with

    www.viamichelin.com

It has a option for travelling by "cycle"
  • I stumbled across this today and have been having a little play, it looks excellent. Haven't uploaded or downloaded any routes yet but so far everything I need or want it seems to do.
