LOOK 566 looks like an XC mountain bike.

Is it just me, or at first glance does the LOOK 566 look like a hard-tail XC MTB?

I'm in the process of building a road bike and was looking through the LOOK range, and came across this:

I assume that it must be the sloping top-tube (and long head-tube), but it looks nothing like a (normal) road frame to me...

I am a mountain biker....and that looks like a road bike!

    Nope, it doesn't.

Mountain bikes have suspension at one or both ends, and do not have drop bars - ever

Not really, no. I rather like it.

I usually like a sloping top tube but that bike (the LOOK) is abit of a "Bella Emberg/Rita Webb".

eeeerm...... wrong on both counts, but I assume that this is just a joke. I've got a hardtail with rigid forks, and check out John Tomac's C-26 Yeti:

Nice replica Nap, check out the original in my reply :D

Edit: Actually, it's not quite original, the eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed the shifters

Again, wrong on both counts I'm afraid. I have a full suspension mtb, front suspension mtb and one with rigid forks, they're all proper mountain bikes.

Are you saying that the Legendary John Tomac wasn't riding a proper mountain bike ?
"He has won more mountain bike races than anyone in the sport, and done so at every level and in all aspects: cross-country, uphill, downhill, even trials. In 1988 and 1990 he won the World Mountain Bike Championships overall title and has claimed many NORBA and national titles as well. In 1991, he has started out fast, winning the Grundig World Cup #2 in France, the Italian National Championship Series #1, the NORBA National Championship #1 in Durango and the Rage in the Sage Circuit Race in Gunnison, Colo."

Surely someone with such a distinguished carear would only ride a proper mointain bike

You may be onto a loser with this one

anyway, I didn't think there were enough mountains in sunny Beckenham to warrant a "proper" mountain bike

Granted, I usually have to stick my MTB on top of the car and dive somewhere to get some decent mountain biking - although the local woods next to the golf course are OK for a quick fix :)

One of your pics is so old it's in black & white....and Tomac was around 20 years ago: things have moved on a bit . Think how much faster he could have gone with a decent one

The C-26 is still rated as one of the best riding hard tails to have been made. Anyway, I bet that Tomac was a faster and better rider than either of us will ever be, even on the old C-26  :)

Sorry folks, Stevo and I appear to have hijacked this and drifted slightly off topic

To clarify, the OP was entirely in jest  .

But just picture that frame, with suspension forks and a pair of riser handlebars...

Ahem, my first post on this was also in jest as Matt suspected. Have added suitable smiley above :) Got a couple of bites so I'll pipe down now....
