How do I get back on my bike after accident?

A month or so, I was cycling my road bike and was hit by a car at a roundabout. It was pretty bad, but thankfully I have lived to tell the tale. I was riding my first road bike that I'd only had for 3-weeks - it was pride and joy! The accident has really dented my confidence and I wanted to ask the forum how I can get on a bike again. I have many years experience cycling to work/for leisure, but not sure I can handle the new feelings of vulnerability on the road. One of the reasons I bought the bike was to complete a triathlon in the Autumn. Many thanks!

    Glad you're OK.

I would think that the best way would be to pick some quiet roads, set sensible limits (distance and time) and work your way in to it.

Best of luck to you :D

I'd suggest some quiet roads / lanes, and a riding buddy or two.

I am getting back into road biking my self. All I can say is your not on your own when it comes to confidence knocks. But the way you feel is not unique to riding a bike. Accidents happen in all walks of life. I was hit off my Harley some years back, bloke came straight out a side road into me. Try not to let it spoil your enjoyment. And build up your confidence gradually. Did you ever see Top Gun when Maverick got into a flat spin and lost his buddy Goose ? The Flight leader said (Get him back in the air) Same for you, (Get him back on that bike).

I'd echo all of the above, good advice.

If Douglas Bader can handle a Hurricane & Spitfire with tin legs, I'm sure you can handle your bike with confidence again. 8)

Just do it, but start easy and be cautious, I'm sure you'll get back into it pretty fast.
Maybe buying a new kit would make you ride more, I love new shorts/jerseys..
