800mm riser bars?

I;ve been suffering with some wicked tendonitis in my forearm since upping the distance and intensity of riding. I have found just holding the very ends of my grips eases this a bit. I also have stupidly broad shoulders (60cm or so) so was thinking my 710mm bars are too narrow for me to get a good hand position. .

So can anyone recommend a good 800mm riser bar with a 31,8 clamp size (or I could change stems at a pinch but realy like my deity one), I can only find the Blackspire 808 and that whilst good is probably overkill in terms of quality and lightness, are there other opitions?

800 mm :o jeebus how would you be able to ride between trees I sometimes think my 680 mm bars are a bit wide when the trails are overgrown.

Funny how things change its not so long ago anything wider than about 650 mm was considered too wide and it was only in the 90s that the first thing anyone did when they bought a new bike was get the hacksaw out and chop bits off the bars.

sounds more like the need to change hand positions.

    bar ends?

Reading the title I thought, WOW 800mm rise, easy rider anyone.....

Back on topic, I think Nick is more on track.....you don't mention which tendons (as in which muscle group they serve) is causing the problem...most forearm tendons serve the hand (so its actually an issue with how your hand grips the bars that's causing it) or the twist of your forearm (so its the angle the had sits at).

    Hi Captinfly
Sounds to me like you need your body position on your bike checked by an expert. You may be too far forward / backward on the bike and this puts extra pressure on the forearms. Get some expert advice so that you will be able to continue to enjoy your riding. I use the specialised comfort grips on my bike that cut the trail buzz and relive the palm tingling I used to get. Also I do pull-ups with free weights to strengthen the forearms - this simulates lifting the front of the bike via the handle bars. But don't try this excercise until the tendonitis has completely gone away.

    All the best

Now that i've read the OP.... after being stunned by the 800mm bar reference

    Try a powerball.

I use one everynight untill my arms start to ache.
I use to get really bad arm pump when riding long techy descents, but after using the powerball the arm pump has practically disappeared.

You can pick them up fairly cheap on ebay too!

    bar ends?

That is probably a good idea, but that put's too much pressure on my damaged scaphoids. The tendonitis is (I think) caused by three of my fingers being put in the wrong position, because of bone spurs (being an unusual size and a wreck is often a problem) in my elbows that won't let me straighten my arms out enough to bring my hands in far enough without turnng them in, so even with the minimum rake I could find on regular sized bars with the fattest grips. I also think squaring up my shoulders wouldn't be a bad thing.

As for getting between trees if I can get htrough them now with my elbows sticking out then wider bars aren't going to be an issue.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I've got two already (with and without counters) and the quick start thing, and grip masters, and physio balls oh and a device with a bar and rope with a weight on it. It is a hand position problem, I had to do something similar when I had a motorbike and that was before my elbows went bad, my shoulders are that wide (I'm 6'3" and don't look tall because I am so broad across my back  )

The Blackspire 808 looks to be the cheapest option, it does come in lots of shiny colours though :)

Being Blackspire, you know its going to be good quality
