Sadly my GT Avalance 3.0 was stolen, my own fault using el-cheapo locks, the thoughts in my head and look on my face when I saw it missing, sadly - live and learn. Lucky I can afford a new bike. Not only that - I am gunna go for a road bike. Here is the stuff I am after:

BIKE: Specialized Allez Sport 18 2010

LOCK: Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini lock

LIGHTS+MIRROR: CATEYE HL500/TL130 LIGHT SET

Right - that all looks smashing to me. I want a helmet too - I might consider a local bike store for this.

Now - I want to be able to carry some cargo with me and about so I've been looking around for stuff. I found this case bag which IMO looks quite classy - how would this attach to my bike???

Also, I wanna get my bike either INSURED or reg it with Kyptonite so if it's missing I get money back.

Anyway - thanks and peace.

bear in mind that the cable can be cut very fast - seconds - so don't use it to secure the bike itself, but it's ok to discourage wheel theft

the kryptonite lock will survive power tools for about 3 minutes, this is fine for daytime in public places with a lot of people around, although to be honest if you stood there with an angle grinder stealing a bike it is unlikely anyone would do anything about it, they'll assume it's legit

unless you are sure the d-lock will fit available fixed anchor points, might be worth gettimg a bigger d-lock

fyi i had a recent loss, cut cable in a busy area, with security guards and cctv - so learned the hard way to *never* rely on a cable

now i have a xena xul d-lock, far tougher than anything kryptonite do, and it has a nice loud motion-sensitive alarm

greenbee and m&s are both good for insurance
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Alright mate - can you link me to something better for the same price please?

    Thanks.

Still waiting on the bag bussiness.
  • Right can I get that briefcase and would this work with it???

imho just get a bigger d lock that'll fit around bike racks and street sign posts

like i said, kryptonite is fine, *nothing* will survive power tools for long, either get a kryptonite with a bigger shackle or look at things like the xena, they go for around 60-70 quid depending on size, google says...

...but there are other places that sell them, i got one from germany

there's an abus with parabolic shackle that's supposed to be good too, can't remember the model name though

  • Okay full size. Not another mini.

The bag can be fixed to the rack you linked to. Review of the bag HERE.
