does anyone know where i can get hold of a rear triangle (or preferably the seatstays) for this frame? Not sure if there is a difference in size of the rear triangles but this frame is a large (is there a difference in size?). Got a frame but the mech hanger is held on by one screw (upper) as the other one seems to not be there, doesn't seem to be a problem but might be long term.

cheers in advance for any help :)

Probably best to get into contact with your local specialized dealership

I always deal direct and have found them really good.

What's wrong with the current rear triangle apart from the missing mech-hanger bolt? The mech-hanger has 2 bolts one of which is blue and "sacrificial" so it snaps to protect the frame.

nothing wrong with the rear triangle apart from the bottom lug that the bolt screws into has broken off much like you have described. Will it be ok long term like this? I thought seeing as it is a stressed item it would eventually do some damage or not hold properly with the one bolt, am i wrong in thinking this?

Thanks for the Spesh info, muchly appreciated :)

Just buy a new mech-hanger they're about £15 and come complete with new bolts,I always carry a spare as I've had 3 snap on the trail.
To answer your question the other bolt might not be strong enough on it's own.It could also break and throw your mech into the rear wheel.Better have the correct bolts for just incase.

From that pic it looks like the frame where the hanger bolts on is snapped. If so you probably need it repairing or a new rear end.
I pressume your hanger looks like this?

They really need the 2 bolts so if it takes a hit it snaps correctly. From the photo it looks like the frame has taken the hit at some point.

Specialized offer a lifetime(15 year)warranty on frames.....if you are the original owner...or if you have the original receipt

In my experience if you ask nicely Specialized UK will usually help you out.

well, i spoke to Spesh this morning and the guy i spoke to was very helpful. They no longer have any parts for these frames (other than servicable parts). He said the design of the rear triangle is a slightly flawed one in that the part that is broken on mine is typical of the 2004 enduros. When the mech hanger breaks, the metal right at the back is quite thin so unfortunately that can break off too. However, the way the FSR triangle is designed, the wheel will hold the rear mech hanger in place so no actual need for the bolts, they are primarily there to hold the hanger in place when the wheel is off.

Don't know how much of this is true but you can't really argue with them. He did finish off my sentence when i started to explain to him what the problem was so i am guessing it could be a common thing.

Not so sure about that.I snapped 3 or 4 hangers on my 04 and the dropout remained intact.Mine wasn't the S-Works though.
  • I have the same problem, it happened nearly 6 years ago when I first got the bike, first ride....
Never had a problem since and still riding it regularly.
I did try to source from USA as there are definitely more 2004 S-Works on the other side of the pond.
