Marginal gains apparantly...

Stating the bleeding obvious, Brailsford commented "You're never sure with the weather"
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

    Not a bad move.

If nothing else, it might sow some seeds of doubt in the opposition that will fester for a few hours in their heads this morning and into the evening

Was that Wiggins OFF or OUT early.

Either way - already 30 seconds down on Contador and not looking good. I mean - where can he get time back if not in a TT!!??

He should pack his bags now then, if that's the end of his Tour.

It's the Prologue, there's 20 stages left for him, and everyone else, to race yet.

Who has the biggest red face Wiggins or Brailsford ? I even think Carlos sastre beat him today and he had the rain to contend with also. I wonder what excuse book will be banded about tonight

Actually, you are right. He might as well go home now. No chance of him getting that time back on Contador. Oh wait - he miight outclimb him in the Pyrenees. Yeah. Right.

I cant see what the point was, surely you want to go out at the same time as the other contenders so you dont't risk different conidtions. Fecking disaster.

the buienradar.nl 3 hr outlook seems pretty accurate. 15:00 and it's raining. guys who hoped to beat the rain will be disappointed

It may cost Brad his place on the podium - but you're never going to get on it if you're not willing to take risks. This was one of them. It's unfortunate it counted against him, but that doesn't make taking the risk itself a mistake.

Only one cyclist can ride the Tour conservatively and that's Contador because he's the strongest. Everyone else has to throw the dice and pray it comes up better then Contador.

Agreed, everyone would be praising it as a masterstroke (even if the feeling would be he still wont be there come Paris) if it had paid off and he set off in blazing sunshine while his major rivals suffered in torrential rain.
Still think it was a disappointing run despite the poor conditions, the 2nd place finisher set off not that far removed from Wiggins I think?

i feel I should point out here, I put that up before anyone had started, never mind Wiggins. It was the combination of Sky applying their "outside the box" approach that sometimes makes them come across a bit silly and pompous and Brailsford's absolutely mundane summat-your-dad-would-say explanation that appealed to me.

    It was worth a try.
Does smack a little of desperation though - trying to gain time by betting on the weather conditions?

So he lost time in the prologue and now in the mountains. Maybe he's going to pull back minutes in that final TT.:lol:

I can't see him gaining bags of time on the likes of Evans, Contador, Menchov in the final TT. Schleck, Basso etc are a different kettle of fish though, as Wiggo could gain minutes depending on fatigue etc.
