crackled paint on bike frame what can it be?

went to buy a trek 4500 this evening and the paint was blistered and crackled around different areas of the frame, the bike was a good price at £120 but i sensed something was not right so i told the seller that i would have a think about it, the bike was a 2004 model. any advice will be very much appreciated.

Might just be paint flaking off. Might be cracked welds. Without pics I cannot see really.

2004 bike so the paint is fairly old... as ss says, just inspect the welds and look for cracks in the actual frame.

If you're not sure then jsut walk away

Could it be brake fluid thats been dropped on the frame and wiped off ?

Walk away if your not 100% happy theres always another bike out there.
